Esther Spicer
Esther M. Spicer, 94, formerly of Celina, died June 7, 2009, at Briarwood Village, Coldwater.
She was born Feb. 12, 1915, in St. Henry to Charlie and Sarah Jane Hole McCain.
Her first husband, Linus Tangeman, is deceased. On May 8, 1944, she married Francis Spicer, who died Feb. 10, 1973.
Surviving are a son, Delbert (Betty) Tangeman, Duncan, S.C.; a daughter, Nelva Smith (Jim McWhorter), St. Marys; two sisters, Grace Kable, Celina, and Doris Harding, Lima; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Deceased are five brothers, Clyde, Loyd, Glen E., Charles Merlin and Nile McCain; a sister, Olive Muter, a son-in-law, Arnold Smith, three grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter.
She had been self-employed as a salesperson for various home products, and had worked as an in-home health care provider for many years. She was a member of Ross Church of the Brethren, Mendon, and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and its Altar Rosary Society, Celina, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary, all of Celina.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Mark Foor officiating. Burial is at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
