Artist Sarah Hess, 22, of Maria Stein, displays a statue of Jesus that she recently refurbished for the Sisters of the Precious Blood. The papier mache statue was handcrafted about 150 years ago, likely by nuns who lived at the former convent and motherhouse along St. Johns Road. After completing the recent work, Hess returned the statue to its home on a crucifix in the first floor hallway of the Maria Stein Center.
