Ruth Theurer
Ruth O. Theurer, 94, Portland, Ind., died March 7, 2010, at The Gardens at St. Henry.
She was born Oct. 18, 1915, in Fort Recovery, to William and Flora Painter Flaler. On Aug. 11, 1951, she married Walter M. Theurer, who died on Apr. 7, 1995.
Surviving are three daughters, Mary Ellen (David) Miller, St. Marys, Alice (Scott) Miley, Indianapolis, Ind., and Sarah (Steve) Rines, Portland, Ind.; and eight grandchildren.
She taught at Van Wert, Celina, Fort Recovery, Madison, Noble, and East Jay Middle School. She retired in 1978. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary in Salamonia, Fort Recovery and Jay County Historical Societies, and Jay County Retired Teachers. She graduated from Fort Recovery High School in 1933 and graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1938. She also served in the American Red Cross during World War II.
Services are 5 p.m. Sunday at the church, the Rev. Greg Rittenhouse, and Rev. Tom Lightle, officiating.
Calling is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be at Salamonia Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to State of the Heart Hospice or Habitat for Humanity. Baird-Freeman Funeral Home are in charge of the arrangements.
