William Steiner
William R. Steiner, 91, died at 11:08 a.m. May 16, 2010, at Otterbein of St. Marys.
He was born Oct. 19, 1918, in Milford, Conn., to Earl C. and Jean Gertrude May Vincent Steiner. On May 23, 1947, he married Emma Jean Lighthiser, who died April. 14, 1984.
Surviving are four children, Linda (Wayne) Abels, Arvada, Colo., Krista (Jay) Westerheide, New Bremen, Jeffery (Vicki) Steiner, Toledo, and Charles Steiner, Dayton; nine grandchildren, and nine great- grandchildren.
Deceased is a daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Steiner, and a brother and a sister.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He survived the Pearl Harbor attack and served in the Korean War. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2800 in Dayton, and the Roundhead Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles of Lakeview and Minster. He retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton and Anna High School.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Meyers Room at Otterbein of St. Marys. Burial is at the German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen.
Calling is 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Otterbein.
Memorials can be made to the State of the Heart Hospice.
