Lydia Burke
Lydia Nussbaum Burke, 100, died Aug. 1, 2010, at Swiss Village in Berne, Ind.
She was born Aug. 31, 1909, in Berne, Ind., to John and Mary Ellen Baumgartner Nussbaum. On Sept. 13, 1931, she married Frank Burke, who died Jan. 28, 1995.
Surviving are five children, the Rev. John (Shirley) Burke, Westminster, Colo., Tom (Rita) Burke, Fishers, Ind., Jerry (Betty) Burke, Berne, Ind., Judy (Richard) Yoder, Berne, and Mary (Bob) Ransbottom, Rockford; 14 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are four sisters, Cora Nussbaum, Meta Stucky, Elda Reynolds and Edna Ellenberger; 10 brothers, Frank, Wesley, Fred, Edwin, Wilbur B., Ben, Albert, Victor, the Rev. John V. and Hiram Nussbaum; and a great-grandchild, Elliana Miller.
She was a member of First Mennonite Church in Berne, Ind., where she sang in the Chancel Choir and was a member of the Mennonite Choral Society. She worked as a seamstress and also made drapes for Habegger Furniture.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church chapel, the Revs. John P. Burke, Craig Yoder and Rev. Jerry Flueckiger officiating. Burial is at the MRE Cemetery west of Berne.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium of Swiss Village and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Yager-Kirchenhofer Funeral Home in Berne is handling arrangments.
