Preparing for lake study

Celina city workers on Wednesday install a curtain to section off a portion of Grand Lake for a test project to combat blue-green algae. The project involves adding silica (sand) to the 2.5-acre test site, which is between the Celina Rotary lighthouse and a rock jetty. The $25,000 pilot study is being funded by the Ohio Department of Agriculture. It is hoped that the silica will help beneficial diatom (green) algae grow and out-compete the toxic blue-green algae. There will be a public meeting to discuss this project and other improvement initiatives at 7 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Celina Fieldhouse.
