Donald Engel
Donald L. Engel, 84, St. Marys, died 1:37 p.m. Dec. 5, 2010, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born May 5, 1926, in St. Marys, to Alvin and Novella Lipp Engel. On Oct. 8, 1947, he married Sylvia Haeseker, who survives.
Also surviving are two children, Randolph (Jill) Engel, Celina, and Adele Fast (Gerald Freewalt), St. Marys; a sister-in-law, Shirley Engel, Wapakoneta; two grandsons, three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a brother, Eugene Engel; and a grandson, Mitchell Fast.
He was a graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School in 1944. He retired as an assistant fire chief for the St. Marys Fire Department. He owned Don Mower Shop in St. Marys. He also drove a truck for St. Marys Trucking Company. He was a member of Mercer Lodge #121, Free and Accepted Masons in St. Marys, a 32nd degree Master Mason, the Scottish Rite Shrine in the Valley of Dayton. He was also a member of the Aug-Mer Shrine Club, Eagles 767, police and fire retirees, West Ohio Fish and Game Club and the St. Paul's United Church of Christ in St. Marys.
Funeral rites are 11 a.m. Thursday at Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home in St. Marys, the Rev. Ed Bray officiating. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Mercer Lodge #121 conducting memorial rites.
