Eleanor Wenzke
Former Celina resident Eleanor C. Wenzke, 94, Fostoria, died March 6, 2011, at Good Shepherd Home in Fostoria.
She was born Sept. 13, 1916, in Newton, Iowa, to Mark E. and Catherine Leary Gants. On Jan. 1, 1938, she married Louis E. Wenzke, who died Aug. 4, 2003.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis Wenzke and Thomas (Kris) Wenzke, both of Fostoria; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Also deceased are a son, James; a daughter, Judith; two brothers, George and Mark; and a sister, Virginia.
She was an accomplished artist on porcelain and a member of the International Porcelain Artist's Teachers Association. She was a campfire leader and past president and guardian for the Fostoria Campfire Council. She volunteered for 50 years with the American Red Cross Canteen, Bloodmobile and the Good Shepherd Home visitation program. She also delivered Meals on Wheels and served as co-chairman of the United Way Special Gifts Committee. She was a member of St. Wendelin Parish in Fostoria, where she was a Eucharistic minister and a member of the Memorial Choir. She also was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and the Circle of Mercy.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, where a rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria. A rosary will be prayed at 3:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Legionnaires of Christ, Memorial Mass Association or the church and Catholic school.
