Louis Schmidt
Louis Joseph "Joe" Schmidt, 82, Anna, died the evening of May 14, 2011 at his residence.
He was born June 10, 1928, in Bluffton, to Louis and Marie Roessner Schmidt. On Feb. 3, 1951, he married Marjorie Liette, who survives.
Also surviving are six children, Max Schmidt, Swanders, Toni (Mark) Stephenson, Sidney, Kurt (Marsha) Schmidt, Anna, Christopher (Jackie) Schmidt, The Villages, Fla., Carla (Bob) Minnich, New Bremen, and Scot (Missy) Schmidt, Swanders; 11 siblings, Dan (Jean) Schmidt, Hamilton, Julie Rehmert, Celina, Raymond Schmidt, Mineral Wells, Texas, the Rev. Les Schmidt, Big Stone Gap, Va., Ben (Betty) Schmidt, Mendon, Rose (Joe) Darby, West Union, Evan (Janace) Schmidt, Geneva, Ind., Margaret (Ivo) Rammel, West Union, Karen (Walter) Steinbrunner, West Union, Mary (Tom) Gall, Cincinnati, and Arlene Weaver, Cincinnati; sisters- and brothers-in-law: Kate Dues, St. Henry, Charlene (Paul) Pearson, Fort Recovery; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Theresa Schmidt; a sister-in-law, Eunice Schmidt; and two brothers-in-law, Carl Rehmert and Mike Weaver.
A member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, McCartyville, he was a 1946 graduate of Fort Recovery High School and attended Bluffton College. He was a member of the Escapees Camping Club.
He retired from Ferguson Construction, Sidney. He was founder, owner and operator of Anna Foods IGA. He was part owner in the Schmidt Family Camp grounds in West Union, Adams County. He also was engaged in farming.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Les Schmidt officiating. Private burial will follow at Pearl Cemetery, Anna.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Gehret Funeral Home, Fort Loramie, and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
