Inmates at the Mercer County Detention Facility plant 72 tomato plants, 72 pepper plants and assorted onion sets in a new garden recently approved by the Mercer County Commissioners. Jail administrator Jodie Lange said a bumper crop might be made into salsa. If the venture proves successful, officials are considering a larger garden next year. Area resident Deb Powell donated the plants while the city of Celina provided equipment, mulch, dirt and a plastic drum for watering purposes.
