Mabel Koontz
Mabel Leota Koontz, 96, Celina, died at 7:50 a.m. Sept. 14, 2011, at The Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford.
She was born Jan. 7, 1915, in Hopewell Township to John and Nettie Smith Now. On Oct. 28, 1933, she married Lawrence R. Koontz, who died Oct. 24, 1994.
Surviving are daughter, Joan Stetler, Rockford; a sister, Margaret Weitz, Xenia; a daughter-in-law, Madonna Koontz, Celina; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 13 great great-grandchildren.
Deceased are son, Dwight Koontz; a son-in-law, Dick Stetler; a brother, Herbert Now; three sisters, Loretta Fast, Beulah Bradford and Laveda Baucher; and a grandson.
She had been co-owner of Gamble's Store and worked as bookkeeper at The Barr Company, both in Celina, and was a homemaker. She was a 1933 graduate of Rockford High School. She was a member of Hopewell Grange and Bethany United Methodist Church, Celina, where she participated in its Women's Society and played piano and organ.
Service is 11 a.m. Monday at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Jonathon Exman officiating. Burial will follow at Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.
Calling is 3-7 p.m. Sunday and 10-11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
