Stinky algae not expected
Lack of ice on lake may influence type of bloom

GRAND LAKE - The lack of ice on Grand Lake this winter may mean the freak algae that coated the lake in the summer of 2010 won't reappear this year.
Celina Water Treatment Plant Superintendent Mike Sudman said ice on the lake two years ago acted like a lid, trapping ammonia in the water. Planktothrix, the lake's dominant algae for years, is hampered by ammonia; aphanizomenon, the foul-smelling blue-green algae that overtook the lake in 2010, is not. [More]

Proposed tax issue would let voters decide on retaining old gym
NEW BREMEN - School board members meeting Tuesday revealed architect drawings of the proposed K-8 building to be added onto the current high school.
63-year-old banner donated to county
WAPAKONETA - A 63-year-old banner celebrating Auglaize County's 100th birthday again will welcome visitors to the area.
Wapakoneta resident Allen Elsass on Tuesday donated the 1948 centennial banner to the county, suggesting it be hung in the courthouse after renovations are complete.
Income tax figures in
CELINA - The city's income tax projection for 2011 was on target as $3.73 million was collected for the year, just $38,000 more than anticipated.
"They seem to be very solid at this point," Celina Mayor Jeff Hazel said this morning about the numbers.
Contractors chosen for bridge and culvert work
CELINA - Four of eight bidding companies were chosen to supply bridge and culvert materials for projects planned this summer.
Mercer County Commissioners on Tuesday chose the lowest bidders for a variety of materials sought for 17 bridge and large culvert projects totaling about $2.5 million.
