Phyllis Cox
Phyllis E. Cox, 83, New Bremen, died at 6:55 a.m. Aug. 4, 2012, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
She was born Feb. 12, 1929, in Springfield to Forrest and Willa Hall McCaughey. On July 3, 1948, she married James Cox, who died Aug. 9, 1990.
Surviving are children, Michael (Judy) Cox, Cleveland, Thomas (Marion) Cox, Austin, Texas, Susan (David) Gibboney, Troy, and Jamie (Patrick) Lampert, New Bremen; a sister, Helen Wheaton, Leesburg; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandsons.
Also deceased are two brothers, Cecil McCoughey and William McCaughey.
She was a nurse's aide at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, and worked at Crown Equipment Corp., New Bremen, until she retired in 1992. After retirement, she became a kindergarten and elementary school aide at New Bremen Elementary School.
She was a member of Faith Alliance Church in New Bremen, the Red Hat Society, Friends of the Library of New Bremen and the New Bremen Historical Society.
A memorial service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Sager officiating. Burial will follow at German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
