Herbert Boerger
Herbert "Herb" J. Boerger, 100, McCartyville, died at 5:50 a.m. Nov 2, 2012, at Elmwood, New Bremen.
He was born June 5, 1912, in Fort Loramie to Frank and Emma Ernst Boerger. On Feb. 4, 1941, he married Alma Schmiesing, who died Aug. 2, 2001.
Surviving are his children, Carol (John) Bucklew, Dayton, Velma Matuszewski Columbus, Grace (Bob) Burke, North Fort Myers, Fla., Michael (Patricia) Boerger, Sidney, and Denise (Kevin) Greve, Evergreen, Colo.; siblings, Ralph Boerger, New Bremen, Clarissa "Chris" Thieman, Minster, Mary Francis, Russia, and Ruth Dabbelt, New Bremen; sisters-in-law, Virginia Boerger, Minster, Irene Boerger, Fort Loramie, and Neoma Hoying; brothers-in-law, John and Harvey Schmiesing; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Also deceased are a son-in-law, Joe Matuszewski; brothers, Leo, Alfred, Clarence, Bob and Frank Boerger; and sisters, Alma Feldman, Dorothy Wolf, Catherine Boerger and Juliana Wagner.
He farmed with the help of his wife for 37 years and played for the Fort Loramie Athletics baseball team, winning the Western Ohio League Championship in 1932. He belonged to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, McCartyville, and to the Knights of Columbus Council.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. John Tonkin celebrant and Deacon John Schmiesing assistant. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Calling is 3-7 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 a.m. Friday at the church.
