Jean Lowman
Jean M. Lowman, 88, St. Marys, died at 3:15 a.m. Nov. 14, 2012, at Otterbein Retirement Community, St. Marys.
She was born March 30, 1924, in St. Marys to Ralph and Amelia Kammer Ferris. On May 4, 1946, she married William J. Hail, who died Jan. 10, 1964. On Nov. 26, 1974, she married Maurice Lowman, who died May 7, 1987.
Surviving are three sons, Charles (Vicki) Hail, Helena, Mont., Michael (Brenda) Hail, Peachtree City, Ga., and William (Bernice) Hail, Mason; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Ferris, Cincinnati.
She graduated in 1942 from St. Marys Memorial High School and earned bachelor and master degrees in education from Miami University. She also attended Cincinnati Music Conservatory. She taught for many years at Holy Rosary School, St. Marys, as well as at Spencerville Public Schools. She retired as a supervisor of the Allen County School System.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Marys, serving as organist and choir director and a member of the Altar Sodality. She also belonged to Sigma Alpha Iota Professional Fraternity, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, St. Marys Shakespeare Club, Music Club and Progress Club. She was member and past president of Friends of the Library, volunteered many years for the Red Cross and belonged to St. Marys Community Foundation.
Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Barry Stechschulte celebrant. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.
Calling is 10-11 a.m. Monday at Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys.
Memorials may be given to Grand Lake Hospice.
