Elmer Hemmelgarn
Elmer N. Hemmelgarn, 89, Russia, died at 9:15 p.m. Dec. 3, 2012, at Versailles Health Care.
He was born Feb. 23, 1923, in St. Sebastian to Theodore and Marie Timmerman Hemmelgarn. On Aug. 11, 1948, he married Regina Rose, who survives.
Also surviving are his children, Nancy (George) Eubanks, Seattle, Wash., Kathy (Chuck) Dyas, Marysville, Don Hemmelgarn, London, Wanda (Ray) Miller, Chesapeake, Va., Elaine McArthur, Dublin, Al (Deb) Hemmelgarn, Justin, Texas, Beth (Mark) Heitkamp, Tipp City, Maria (Terry) Daugherty, Russia, and Lou (Leandra) Hemmelgarn, Topeka, Kan.; a sister, Marjorie (Ralph) Diller, Maria Stein; 20 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sisters, Wilma Reichart and Janice Berger, and a brother, Elton Hemmelgarn.
He was a member of St. Remy Catholic Church, Russia, and St. Rose Catholic Church, St. Rose. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and volunteered for 18 years at the Center for Neurological Development. He owned and operated a milk hauling business.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Rose Catholic Church, the Rev. Gene Schnipke officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Rose Cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-9:30 a.m. Friday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Russia.
