Jerry Wenning
Jerry Wenning, 74, Van Wert, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Dec. 31, 2012, at Leesburg Regional Medical Center, Leesburg, Fla.
He was born in Wapakoneta, the son of the late William "Bill" and June Pfenning Wenning. He was married in Wapakoneta to Alice Oen Wenning, who survives him in Van Wert.
He is also survived by his daughter, Kris Hiser; sons, Kevin (Joy) Wenning and Keith (Tracey) Wenning; grandchildren, Sarah (George) Searfoss, Joshua Hiser, and Caleb, Jessica and Gabrielle Wenning; great-grandchildren Carissa and Olivia Searfoss; a sister, Judy (Richard) Clark; a brother, Jack Wenning; and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandchildren, Amanda and Naomi Hiser; great-grandson, Andrew Searfoss; and his brother, Joe Wenning.
He earned his associate degree from Christian Life School of Theology and Seminary and graduated from Radiology Technology School at St. Rita's Hospital, Lima. He worked in the radiology department at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind., and was the radiology manager at Van Wert County Hospital and Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater, from which he retired.
He was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserves for seven years, where he served as a corpsman. He was active in Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle Scout and served as an assistant Scoutmaster. He served as a coach/mentor to youth basketball and baseball. He had been a member of Council 6034 Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight. He was president of Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship International, an elder and board member at Liberty Temple Church in Lima and board member of the Van Wert Youth for Christ.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family, reading and studying the Bible, hunting, fishing, camping, Boy Scouting, softball, biking, canoeing, family get-togethers around the pool, world travel, Ohio State Buckeyes, Boston Celtics and Cleveland Browns.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Evangelical Church in Van Wert, the Rev. Jerry Hunt officiant.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with additional visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Van Wert Area Youth for Christ, 302 Bonnewitz Avenue, Van Wert.
