Alfons Stammen
Alfons J. Stammen, 97, North Star, died Jan. 31, 2013, at the Gardens at St. Henry.
He was born Oct. 28, 1915, in New Weston, to Joseph and Josephine Weis Stammen. On Nov. 29, 1945, he married Esther Rindler, who died Nov. 8, 1982. On May 25, 1984, he married Lois Westerbeck-Lammers, who survives in North Star.
He is also survived by four children, Marv (Millie) Stammen of Greenville, Howard (Ann) Stammen of St. Henry, Mary Ann (Steve) Badgett of Fort Recovery and Ken (Ann) Stammen of New Weston; five stepchildren, Connie Bremer of Granville, James (Bea) Lammers of Omaha, Neb., William Lammers of Washington, D.C., Daniel Lammers of Greenville, and Mark Lammers of Laguana Hills, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marie Langenkamp of North Star, Delores Groff of Dayton and Eulalia (Elmer) Klosterman of Montezuma; and five in-laws, Tillie Stammen of St. Henry, Sally Stammen of Burkettsville, Ruth Stammen of Burkettsville, Ruth Stammen of New Weston, and Lorena Rindler of Coldwater.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Roselyn Stammen, a son, Michael Stammen, and siblings and in-laws, Coletta Stammen, Armella Stammen, Margaret (Norbert) Langenkamp, Edward (Bernadine) Stammen, Herman Stammen, Cyril Stammen, Cornelius (Anna Mae) Stammen, Virgil Stammen, Carl Stammen, Lawrence Stammen, Ado Langenkamp, Joseph Groff, Eugene Rindler, Lavern (Delores) Rindler and Vitalis Rindler; a step-daughter-in-law, Amy Lammers, and a step-grandchild.
He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, North Star, the Men's Society of the Church, the Maria Stein Knights of Columbus, the North Star American Legion, and was a past St. Henry School Board member. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during World War II and was a farmer.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Louis Catholic Church, North Star. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Cranberry Prairie.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry, and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Louis Catholic Church.
