James Carpenter
James E. Carpenter, 70, St. Marys, died at 4:50 a.m. Feb. 1, 2013, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 27, 1942, in St. Marys to Howard and Rachel Russell Carpenter, who are deceased. On Nov. 21, 1984, he was married in Lexington, Ky., to Linda Kay Sturgill, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Jimmy (Sara) Carpenter, Oshkosh, Wisc., Thomas Carpenter, Minneapolis, Minn., and Tony (Lisa) Carpenter, Oshkosh, Wisc.; a daughter, Lori Woehrmeyer, Oshkosh, Wisc.; a step-daughter, Michelle (Kenneth) Yuhanick, Elida; 10 grandchildren; five sisters, Madge Lawson, Seattle, Wash., Ruth Carpenter, St. Marys, Lana Hardin, St. Marys, Cheryl (Tony) Newberry, St. Marys, and Deb (Scott) Humbert, St. Marys; two brothers, David Carpenter, Greenville, and Ronnie (Carla) Carpenter, Dayton; and a brother-in-law, Jack (Deb) Sturgill, St. Marys.
Also deceased are a brother, Allen Carpenter, and a sister, Lora Carpenter.
He was retired from the U.S. Army and had worked for Dickerson Refrigeration and Ramada Inn Motel, both in Lexington, Ky. His favorite pastimes included playing bingo, collecting sports cards, knives and swords. He also had a vast collection of Hot Wheels automobiles.
Funeral rites are 1 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, West Chapel, St. Marys. Burial, with full graveside military rites, will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
