Elsie VanOss
Elsie C. VanOss, 95, Minster, died at 3:15 a.m. Feb. 25, 2013, at Heritage Manor Nursing Center in Minster. She had been a resident there for nine years.
She was born June 19, 1917, in Fort Loramie, to Albert and Amelia Boerger Freytag. On Feb. 21, 1944, she married Edmund G. VanOss, who died Oct. 27, 2002.
She is survived by three children, Gretchen (Jim) Eilerman of Fort Loramie, Ellen (Paul) Zircher of Fort Loramie and Mark (Jean) VanOss of Seattle, Wash., 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert (Marge) Freytag of Minster, and two sisters-in-law, Ellen Freytag of Sidney and Anne Freytag of Minster.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Karl and Robert Freytag, and four sisters, Marie Winklejohn, Louise Tebbe, Paula Monahan and Margaret Schrimpf.
She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and the Mission Commission of the church. She was a 1935 graduate of Fort Loramie High School and enjoyed reading, baking, traveling and walks in the local cemetery. She retired as head librarian at Stallo Memorial Library in Minster after 20 years of service.
A Mass of Christian Burial is at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Augustine Church, the Rev. Rick Nieberding officiating. Burial will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-9:30 a.m. Friday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster.
