Albert Heckler
Albert Heckler, 91, Celina, died at 6:04 p.m. on Good Friday, March 29, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born Dec. 14, 1921, in Celina to Peter J. and Rose H. Wiseman Heckler. On Aug. 24, 1946, he married Anna Rita Mestemaker, who survives in Celina.
Also surviving are two sons, Dr. Thomas (Sharon) Heckler of Lima and Ralph (Marsha) Heckler of St. Marys; a daughter-in-law, Lori Heckler of Montezuma; a daughter, Rosann Heckler of Coldwater; a brother, Maurice (Hannah) Heckler of Celina; a sister-in-law, Phillys Heckler of Celina; and four grandchildren, Christine Heckler, Elizabeth Heckler, Abby Heckler and Jeffrey (Julie) Heckler.
Deceased are a son, Lawrence "Larry" Heckler; five brothers, twin Edward (Esther) Heckler, Dale (Colleen) Heckler, Carl (Mabel) Heckler, Earl (Mildred) Heckler and Wayne Heckler; and a sister, Rita (Alvin) Mestemaker.
He graduated in 1941 from Immaculate Conception School. He served as a sergeant in the Front Line 83rd Infantry, 329th Regiment in France for the U.S. Army during WWII. He received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service.
He was president of the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery Board. Cheryl Ann School began the Albert Heckler award in his honor. He retired from CBS Automotive.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Celina, Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion and served on the advisory board at Cheryl Ann.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, Rev. Kenneth Alt officiating. Burial will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina. Military rites are 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and will be performed by Celina VFW and American Legion.
Memorials may be given to Cheryl Ann School.
