Barbara Smith
Barbara J. Smith, 83, St. Marys, died at 10:10 a.m. April 7, 2013, at Otterbein St. Marys.
She was born May 30, 1929, in Muncie, Ind., to Ralph and Vivian McMahon Campbell. On Nov. 1, 1952, she married Claude "Pete" Smith in Lima, and he died April 25, 2002.
Surviving are three sons, Michael Smith of Lima, Tim (Michelle) Smith of St. Marys and Harry (Karen) Smith of New Bremen; two daughters, Kathy (Dennis) Schwarck of St. Marys and Susan (Dan Frysinger) Kolsky of St. Marys; 13 grandchildren, Christopher (Kristina) Smith, Julie Smith, Jeff Smith, Joshua (Nicolette) Kolsky, Katie (Brandon) Nevergall, Krystal (Ryan) Longsworth, Sarah Smith, Matthew Schwarck, Erika Smith, Abby Smith, Lucas Smith, Cassidy Smith and Olivia Smith; five great-grandchildren, Brandyn Smith, Aliyah Smith, Tucker Longsworth, Trace Longsworth and Brandy Nevergall; a brother, Ralph "Bud" Campbell of Lima; and a sister, Lorene (Harold) Keller of Lima.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Jeffrey Smith, and a sister, Alice Sanders.
She was a 1947 graduate of Shawnee High School and a 1950 graduate of St. Rita's School of Nursing, both in Lima. A registered nurse, she retired from Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and its UMC Women in St. Marys. Her pastimes included camping, gardening, needlepoint, crocheting and playing "Yahtzee."
Above all, she was a caring and devoted mother and grandmother. She was dearly loved by all her family, who will cherish her memory forever.
Rites are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, east of Spencerville.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
