Stack coming down brick by brick

Brick by brick, crews bring down the old power plant smokestack in St. Marys. A decision was made earlier this year to demolish the stack due to safety concerns. Workers are estimated to remove 5-10 feet per day of the 225-foot tower and 15 feet have been removed. The bottom 30 feet of the tower will be demolished with the adjoining power plant. Asbestos removal must occur first at the plant, with demolition most likely completed by next spring, city officials have said.
