Margaret Mescher
Margaret Lee Romine Mescher, 89, Portland, Ind., passed away May 25, 2013, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 18, 1924, in Marion, Ind., to Roy and Jennie Winebrenner Lee. She married Fred Romine in 1943, and he passed away in 1977. She married Linus Mescher in 1984, and he survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sadonna Hinshaw of Saratoga and Barbara Whitenack of Portland; a stepdaughter, Karen Mescher of Portland; one brother, Bob Lee of Anderson, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Romine; a daughter, Dianna Vance; a grandson; and a granddaughter.
She was a cook at Tom and Rods and Jay County Retirement Center and also worked at Wee Care, all in Portland. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and American Legion Auxiliary.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Rev. Robert Moran presiding. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Pennville.
Calling is 3–8 p.m. Wednesday at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, with a scripture service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the Jay County Cancer Society, Jay County Humane Society or State of the Heart Hospice.
