Elizabeth Overman
Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Overman, 80, Maria Stein, died at 8:40 a.m. July 27, 2013, at Briarwood Village in Coldwater.
She was born May 3, 1933, in Osgood, to Joseph R. and Cecilia E. Bruening Frey. She married Cyril F. Overman on Oct. 3, 1953, in Osgood, and he survives in Maria Stein.
She is also survived by her children, Deb (Roger) Kremer of St. Henry and Howard (Pat) Overman of New Bremen, Tammy (Lou) Schwieterman of Montezuma, Bonnie (Jim) Rutschilling of Celina, Frank (Jayne) Overman of New Bremen, Lisa (Tony) Goecke of Liberty, Ind., and Mandy (Lester) Fleck of St. Sebastian; a son-in-law, Gary Rose of St. Sebastian; 28 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Walter (Bernice) Frey of Osgood, Marian (Walter) Braun of St. Rose, Marilyn Homan of Coldwater, Alberta (Willard) Bruns of St. Sebastian; in-laws, Juliana Frey of Fort Loramie, Herbert Hoying of Sidney, Bernie Frey of Dayton, Benard Hemmelgarn of Minster, Dorothy Gerlach of St. Henry, Louis (Joan) Overman of Maria Stein, Marilyn (Bill) Braun of Columbus, Joan Overman of Celina and Alma Overman of Dayton.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Rose; brothers and sisters, Dorothy Hoying, Lucille (Andrew) Bergman, Ralph (Esther) Frey, Alvin Frey and Vernon Frey, Donald Homan, Vi (Norbert) Dippold, Alvina Hemmelgarn, Rich (Alma) Overman, Otmar Overman and Linus Overman.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, a past president of the St. Anne Ladies Sodality, and a charter member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 571. She retired as co-manager of the Maria Stein Legion Bar for 17 years and as church custodian. During her spare time she took pride sewing for the veterans, making ditty bags and lap blankets. She was also a huge Marion Local "Flyer" and Notre Dame fan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the Rev. Tom Brenberger celebrant.
Friends may call 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster. Burial will take place in St. John Cemetery.
