Marjorie Rethman
Marjorie A. Puthoff Rethman, 78, Fort Loramie, passed away of natural causes late Saturday evening, Nov. 16, 2013, at Kettering Memorial Hospital, Kettering.
She was born March 31, 1935, in St. Patrick, to Bernard and Bertha (Menker) Puthoff. On Aug. 6, 1955, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in St. Patrick, she married Eugene Rethman, who survives.
Also surviving are three children, Dan (Kathy) Rethman, Fort Loramie; Ann (Jeff) Gilbertson, Rice Lake, Wisc., and Mary Jo (James) High, Russia; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Brad (Lindsey) Rethman and their son, Quinn, of Rogers, Ark., Ashley (Adrian) Crawford and their son, Cole, of Oakwood, Craig Rethman, Columbus, Anders (Robyn) Gilbertson and their daughter, Andrea, Duluth, Minn., and Bjorn (Claire) Gilbertson and their children, Daniel and Norah, Marshfield, Wisc.; six siblings, Vera Woehrmyer, Minster, Mary Holthaus, Fort Loramie, Melvin (Betty) Puthoff, Naples, Fla., Don (Phylis) Puthoff, Fort Loramie, Robert (Teresa) Puthoff, Sidney, and Bonnie (Frank) Turner, Fort Loramie; and one brother-in-law, Lewis Thieman, Carmel, Ind.
Deceased are four siblings, Francis Puthoff, Corrine Francis, Lucille Puthoff and Barbara Thieman; one sister-in-law, Freda Puthoff; and three brothers-in-law, Melvin Woehrmyer, Alfred Holthaus and Tom Francis.
A 1953 graduate of Fort Loramie High School, she was a homemaker. She attended St. Michael Catholic Church, where she retired in 1998 with 16 years of service as Director of Religious Education. She also taught religious education (CCD) for 24 years, and had been a member of the church choir and was a cantor for many years. She was a member of St. Ann's Rosary Altar Society, Catholic Ladies of Columbia and had been an Apostleship of Prayer Promoter. She was a Girl Scout Leader for eight years and a member of the Fort Loramie American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. For 14 years, she baked and decorated wedding cakes and special occasion cakes. She also enjoyed playing cards, pinochle, scrapbooking and creating memories for her family.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie, the Rev. Steven Shoup officiating. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 a.m. Friday at Gehret Funeral Home, Fort Loramie.
