Alva Black
Alva L. Black, 72, Celina, died at 7:45 a.m. Nov. 29, 2013, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, following a brief illness.
He was born April 11, 1941, in Harrisburg, Pa., to Alva Sr. and Goldie Kerns Black. On Nov. 19, 2003, he married Vicky Burden, who survives in Celina.
Also surviving are children, Sherry (Michael) Dirksen, Union City, Ind., Kimberly Reynolds, Ashland, Kansas, Julie (Jerry) Francis, Versailles, Richie (Schanda) Black, Ansonia, Rickie Black, Greenville, Ryan Black, Ansonia, and Krista Hoover, Sandusky; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and siblings, Gary Meyer, David Meyer, Patsy Stump and Linda Batty.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Frank Reynolds.
He retired from Minster Machine Co. in 2000 and was an avid outdoorsman and trapshooter. He belonged to many clubs and associations, including the Newport Sportsmen's Club and Mercer County Sportsmen Association.
Funeral services are 7 p.m. Thursday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster, the Rev. Dennis Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow at a later date.
