Marjorie Treece
Marjorie Treece, 79, Ayersville, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Dec. 22 at the Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center. She had battled cancer for many months.
She was born Oct. 13, 1934, in Celina, to Elbridge and Leona Suhr Enyart Brown. She married James Treece on Aug. 17, 1957, and he survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Tamara (Larry) Hoxie, Garner, N.C., and Nancy Thompson, Dowagiac, Mich.; a son, Thomas Treece, Ayersville; seven grandchildren, Jacob (Iliana), Noel, Gabriel and Michael Hoxie, and Chelsea, Ben, and Sean Thompson; and a dear sister, Sarah (DeWane) Eichenauer, Sidney.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a stepfather, Robert Brown; three brothers, Charles, Lowell (Margaret) and Jim; and a sister, Beth Ann.
She was an active member of the Dupont Church of the Brethren and loved the Lord. She had retired as an elementary teacher. She earned a bachelor of science degree from Defiance College and a master's degree from Wright State University. She taught in Celina, Rockford, Toledo and Continental school systems. Earlier in life, she was a Girl Scout leader and a 4-H leader. She also taught Sunday School classes and volunteered at the District 16 School at Sauder Village. She was a member of the Defiance and Putnam County Retired Teachers Associations, serving as DCRTA secretary for several years.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday at Dupont Church of the Brethren, Pastors Terry Porter and Doug Price officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery with a meal to be provided at the church after the burial.
Calling is 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Heitmeyer Funeral Home in Continental.
