Marilyn Emans
Marilyn J. Emans, 86, Mendon, died July 14, 2014, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
She was born April 21, 1928, in Jennings Township, Van Wert County, to Orville W. and Gladys C. Marbaugh Wright Coffman. On Dec. 24, 1946, she married Alfred V. "Pooch" Emans, who died Dec. 31.2004.
Surviving are three children, Rex (Janet) Emans, Rockford, Rick (Barb) Emans, Mendon, and Rita Puthoff, Celina; a brother, Homer (Eva) Coffman, Edgerton; two sisters, Mary Jane (Carl) Putman, New Haven, Ind.; and Martha (Max) Wood, Spencerville; seven grandchildren, Deanna, Angela, Valerie, Amber, Jill, Rob and Patrick; 15 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mid (Ed) Greasley, Spencerville, Marge Coffman, Lima, and Patricia Emans Rice, Ossian, Ind.; a brother-in-law, Stanley (Janet) Emans, Mendon; and a special friend, Eugene "Gene" Krick, Spencerville.
Deceased are her parents; a stepmother, Minnie Albright Coffman; a son-in-law, Dan Puthoff; brothers, Wilbert "Buss" Coffman, Merle Coffman, Harold "Bud" Coffman, Jack Coffman and Maurice Wright; sisters, Anna Marie Miller Savidge, Aileen Riley and Lucile Goodwin; sisters-in-law, Cleo Moorman, Helen Schlueter and Rhonda Eitzman; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Emans.
She attended the Jennings School in Van Wert County. She had worked at the Mendon Canning Factory, where she met her husband. Later, she worked at Continental Can in Van Wert and provided childcare in her home. She was also a co-owner of the Emans Union 76 Station in Mendon.
A member of the Mendon First Church of God, she was very active in the local community. She served on the board of elections for a number of years and was a member of the Mendon Craft Club and the village's bicentennial committee. For many years, she and her husband wintered in southern Texas.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Mendon First Church of God, the Rev. Mary Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Mendon Cemetery.
Calling is 4-8 p.m Thursday at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home, Mendon, and 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.
