Cory Kittle of Celina is among hundreds of people getting a pot full of beans from Donald Brock at the 116th annual Durbin Bean Bake in a wooded area along Erastus-Durbin Road on Monday afternoon. Kittle was at the event with his mother, Janet, and his 16-month-old daughter, Ava. Kittle said he and his family have been coming to the event for years. The bean bake takes place on Labor Day in the woods owned by the Durbin Bean Bake Community Club. All proceeds go to charity. The event began as a bean supper and was later operated by the Durbin Soldier's Bean Supper Association to honor veterans. This year's event featured games, a memorial service and music. The beans were cooked all day in huge iron pots and available for a freewill offering.
