Douglas Hassan
Douglas E. Hassan, 63, Celina, passed away at 12:11 p.m. Sept. 8, 2014, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, after an extended illness.
He was born Jan. 13, 1951, in Coldwater, to Lowell E. and Pauline Axe Hassan.
Surviving are sisters, Donna (Ralph) Gardner, Hamilton, Debra (Dan Stammen) Abels, Celina, Diana (John) Ferguson, Grove City, and Darcy Homan, Celina; 11 nieces and nephews; and 19 great-nieces and great-nephews.
He graduated from the Ohio State School for the Blind in Columbus in 1970. He furthered his education in New York where he earned a certification in piano tuning. In 1970, he participated in a bicycle tour across the U.S. with Taylor University. He spent most of his life in Columbus but returned to Celina in 2001 and worked at Bella's Italian Grill.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina. He will be remembered as an amazing blind man who loved life. He had a deep passion for music, having performed locally for many years.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Kenneth Schnipke officiating. Burial will follow at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
