Urban Albers
Urban J. Albers, 88, Minster, died at 3:30 p.m. Dec., 19, 2014, at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater.
He was born Aug. 27, 1926, in Fort Loramie, to William H. and Teresa Sherman Albers. On Nov. 8, 1947, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, he married Violet Meyer, who survives in Minster.
Also surviving are five children, Ann (Dennis) Huelskamp, Botkins, Mark (Mary Agnes) Albers, Minster, Marvin Albers (Mary Ann Cotterman), Minster, Sharon (Dallas) Coats, Botkins, and Lynne (Tim) Puthoff, West Milton; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four siblings, Cletus (Irene) Albers, Ashland, Jeanette Weaver, Minster, Dr. Robert (Viola) Albers, Coldwater, and Mary Ann (Roger) Schmitmeyer, Fort Loramie; and a sister-in-law, Connie Meyer, Minster.
Deceased are a sister, Rosemary (Norm) Menker; an infant sister, Mary Albers; his wife's uncle, Alex Meyer; and three in-laws, Robert Weaver, Julian "Bud" Meyer and Wilma Larger.
He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, and Minster American Legion and F.O.E. 1391. He also was a member of the Locker Board, Shelby County Farm Bureau Council 39, nine years as a board member of the Minster Farmers Elevator and president for six years and a member of the Holstein Association.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a lifelong farmer and drove his own milk truck route when he was younger. He loved fishing at Lake Erie and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, the Rev. Rick Nieberding officiating. Burial with full military honors by the Minster Firing Squad will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday and 9-9:30 a.m. Saturday, at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.
