Kathryn Freed
Kathryn Heininger Freed, 92, formerly of Findlay, passed away Jan. 25, 2015, at Otterbein Retirement Community, St. Marys.
She was born Dec. 21, 1922, in Peking (Beijing), China, where her parents, Charles S. and Lula McKinney Heininger were Methodist Protestant missionaries in Kalgan, China. On Dec. 5, 1943, she married the love of her life, Joe Franklin Freed, who survives. They had 71 years together.
Also surviving are four children, Margaret (Dwight) Steen, Denver, Colo., Dr. Thomas Freed, Grafton, Wis., Dr. Donald (Debra) Freed, Suttons Bay, Mich., and Rebecca (Douglas) Warren, Findlay; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a brother, the Rev. James B. (Nancy) Heininger, Granville.
Deceased are two sister, Martha Crabbe and Helen Bernard, and a brother, Charles M. Heininger.
She was a 1940 graduate of Forest High School, Forest, and graduated as a registered nurse in 1943 from the Christ Hospital School of Nursing, Cincinnati. She was a former member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Findlay, and most recently was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Celina.
Her life was dedicated to faith, love and service to others.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday in the Meyer Room at Otterbein Retirement Community, St. Marys.
Calling is 1-2 p.m. Saturday in the Meyer Room.
