Leo Wenning
Leo A. Wenning, 84, Yorkshire, passed away of natural causes at his residence, early in the morning of Feb. 5, 2015.
He was born Oct. 29, 1930, in Yorkshire, to Anton and Sophia Hoelscher Wenning. On May 10, 1958, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Osgood, he married Marguerite "Margie" Grieshop, who survives.
Also surviving are three children, Anthony (Diane) Wenning, Yorkshire, Elaine (Bruce) Pierron, Maria Stein, and Le Anne Wenning, Troy; eight grandchildren, Jacob and Rachel Wenning, Jay, Lee and Jenna Pierron and Karis, Alexis and Reegan Wenning; one great-grandson, Phoenix Wenning; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances Wenning, Centerville, Lois Wenning, Osgood, Betty Schlarman, North Star, Cletus (Mary Ann) Grieshop, Minster, Edna (Cletus) Lange, St. Henry, Nick Grieshop, Yorkshire, Vernon (Pat) Grieshop, Yorkshire, Tom (Janice) Grieshop, St. Marys, and Angie Grieshop, Sidney.
Deceased are two brothers, Henry and Cletus Wenning; five sisters, Martha Wenning, Josephine (Harold) Bruns, Rita (Leo) Bollheimer, Theresa (Firmin) Alexander and Liz (Hugo) Schlarman.
He was a 1949 graduate of Versailles High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and had been engaged in dairy farming all of his working life.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Osgood, and its Men's Sodality. He had been a Life Member of the Osgood American Legion Post 588 and served many years with the firing squad. He had also been an Osgood American Legion dance committee volunteer for many years. He enjoyed big band music, dancing, watching football and entertaining his grandchildren.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Nicholas Church, Osgood, the Rev. David L. Zink presiding. Interment with full military honors by the Osgood Legion Firing Squad will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery, Osgood.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Monday and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at Gehret Funeral Home, Fort Loramie.
