Richard Mayer
Richard Carl "Dick" Mayer, 89, Celina, and formerly of Tipp City, passed away Feb. 4, 2015, at St. Rita's Hospital, Lima.
He was born Nov. 22, 1925 in Dayton, to Raymond Carl Mayer and Thesel Shanks Mayer Helke. His wife of 56 years, Charlyne Young Mayer, died in 2014.
Surviving is a daughter, Susan (Sherman) Brown, Doylestown; a son, Randy (Kim) Mayer, Dayton; a stepson, James (Evelyn) Hodge, Liberty, Ind., grandchildren, Ryan (Janice) Brown, Parma, and Ross Mayer, Ocala, Fla.; stepgrandchildren, Brenda (Bill) Thornton, Troy, Betsey (Tommy) Henry, Riverside, Kenny (Tana) Bowen, Troy, Barbara (Jeff) Garrison, Dayton, Alice (Jeff Elliott) Davisson, Casstown, and Judi (Joe) Apple, Knoxville, Tenn.; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked in the Engineering and Research Department of A.O. Smith before retiring in 1986. He was a member of American Legion Post 586, Eagles and VFW, all of Tipp City, and a member of the South Shore Sportsman's Club, Montezuma.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home, Tipp City, Pastor Bonita Ritchie officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Tipp City.
