Evelyn Bertke
Evelyn R. Bertke, 86, Maria Stein, died on Feb. 24, 2015, at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater.
She was born July 3, 1928, in Cranberry Prairie, to the late Joseph and Mary (Evers) Hartings. On June 20, 1953, she married Louis Bertke, who died Jan. 26, 2009.
Surviving are seven children, Kenneth and Angela Bertke, Maria Stein, Barbara and Jerry Arling, Minster, David and Jane Bertke, Maria Stein, Roger and Teresa Bertke, St. Marys, Mary and Gregg Barhorst, Maria Stein, Timothy and Teresa Bertke, Minster, and Michael and Renee Bertke, Maria Stein; 26 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Ernest and Alfrieda Hartings, Coldwater, Thelma Broerman, New Weston, Patsy Broerman, New Bremen, Lester and Dolores Hartings, St. Henry, Betty and Jack Romer, St. Henry, Linus and Carol Hartings, Coldwater, and Myron and Patty Hartings, Mendon; in-laws, Wilbur and Anna Bertke, St. Henry, Ernest and Rita Bertke, Centerville, and Norma and Norb Otting, Minster.
Also deceased are a son, Daniel Bertke; two grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Hartings; a brother, Virgil Hartings; and in-laws, Lawrence Broerman, Alfred Broerman, Euleta and Werner Bensman, Mary Ann Bertke, Leander and Alvira Bertke, Cyril and Dorothy Bertke, Dennis Bertke and Marinus Bertke.
She was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Cassella, the Christian Mother's Sodality and the Catholic Knights. She was a 1946 graduate of St. Henry High School, worked in the office at New Idea, Coldwater, for six years and was a homemaker.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Cassella. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry.
