Rosemary Rye
Rosemary Rye, 93, of Saint Marys, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at her residence.
She was born December 15, 1921, in Bowling Green, Ohio, the daughter of Charles W. and Marie (Pohlabel) Dingledine. On June 5, 1947, she married William Scarlett Rye in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Saint Marys. They celebrated 57 years of marriage prior to his death on June 2, 2004.
She is survived by two daughters: Scarlett Rye of Columbus; Therese (William) Purpura of Thornville, Ohio; by two sons: William (Jane) Rye of Saint Marys; Thomas (Vicki) Rye of Houston, Texas. She is survived by six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and by two sisters-in-law, Janet Dingledine and LaVera Dingledine.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; by five brothers: Charles, Robert, Ray, Tom and Jim Dingledine; by three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Dingledine, Patricia Dingledine and Catherine Dingledine; and by a sister and four brothers who died in infancy. She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Louise (Wendel) Rye.
Mrs. Rye was a 1939 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School. She worked as a secretary of the Albert Stout Insurance Agency before her marriage. She later retired from the Holy Rosary School cafeteria where she had worked for over twenty-five years. She was very interested in politics and was a member of the Auglaize County Republican Central Committee and the Republican Women's Club. She also worked as an election poll worker for over fifty years, a position she enjoyed immensely. She was also a member of the American Legion and Eagle's Lodge 767 Auxiliaries. She will be remembered for her quick wit and great sense of humor. Rosemary never met a stranger.
She was an active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Saint Marys and its Altar Rosary Society, serving as Treasurer and co-chairwoman of the funeral luncheon committee for a number of years.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 20, 2015, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Saint Marys, Fr. Barry Stechschulte celebrant. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, Saint Marys.
Friends may call from 5-8 P.M. Thursday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street, Saint Marys, where a Christian Prayer Service will begin at 6:00 P.M., led by Deacon Marty Brown.
Memorial gifts may be given to the Catholic Community Foundation of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Saint Marys.
