Jayne Custer
Jayne E. Custer, 92, of Rockford died at 11:54 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2015, in Geneva, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family.
Jayne was born on January 31, 1923, in Van Wert, Ohio, to Thomas and Mary Ann (Davies) Jones. On December 5, 1948, she married James Oscar Custer, and in 1949, moved to Rockford to make it their home. Jim preceded in death on April 5, 1977.
Jayne was a bookkeeper for many years at the Rockford Hardware on Main Street of Rockford, and there, she even tried her hand at dusting all the items there.
She was a member of the former Rockford Presbyterian Church, where she was treasurer of the Women's Organization for over 40 years, and was honored by an award for her service over the years. She was one of the ladies, who every year, would cook and serve the famous turkey dinners at Thanksgiving time.
She was a member of the Eastern Star in Rockford, the Red Hat Society, and the Rockford American Legion Auxiliary, Post 508. She enjoyed working in her yard, especially mowing on her yard tractor.
She was an avid sports fan and loved attending the sports events at Parkway...and she loved it when she could attend her grand children's sporting events. Traveling was one of her favorite things to do, along with shopping, of course!!
She had a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, and everyone, even strangers, would comment on her pleasant smile. Jayne always had a very pretty smile for whomever she met.
Surviving are two daughters and two sons: Cheryl Arnold, of Leo, Indiana; Cindy (Stan) Minnich, of Geneva, Indiana; Tom (Kathy) Custer, of Marysville, Ohio; and Steve (Marianne), of Ostrander, Ohio.
