Patrick Thompson
Patrick "Pat" Thompson, 65, of 09290 Botkins Angle Road, New Knoxville, Ohio, died 3:00 A.M. Monday, July 13, 2015, at his residence, following an extended illness.
He was born April 14, 1950, in Lafayette, Indiana, the son of Gordon and Alice (Sell) Thompson.
He married Annette Niemeyer on September 22, 1990, and she survives at the residence.
He is also survived by his three sons and two daughters: Greg (Jill) Thompson of Fort Loramie; Keith (Tina) Thompson of New Knoxville; Adam Thompson of New Knoxville; Sarah (Luke) Baker of New Knoxville; Jill (Matt) Gabel of New Knoxville.
He is survived by a brother, Kurt (Torie) Thompson of Arnold, Maryland; three sisters: Tam (Rick) Harrell of Sevierville, Tennessee; Meredith (Keith) Henderson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Alica Thompson of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. He is survived by eleven grandchildren, and by his father-in-law, Jim (Shirley Huckeriede) Niemeyer of New Knoxville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his mother-in-law, Nancy Niemeyer.
Pat was a 1968 graduate of Washington High School in Washington Court House, Ohio. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a military policeman in Germany and Vietnam.
He was employed at Hoge Lumber Company in New Knoxville before becoming an Ohio State Trooper. He retired from the Ohio Highway Patrol after twenty-four years of service. He then did carpentry work for Maurer Construction.
He was a member of the First Church of New Knoxville, the New Knoxville Gun and Rifle Club, American Legion Post 444, VFW Post 8445, and a volunteer instructor for the Ohio Division of Wildlife.
Pat enjoyed playing cards, working in the garden, and spending time with his grandchildren, whom he dearly loved.
Funeral rites will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2015, at the First Church of New Knoxville, the Reverend Beth Ernest, officiant.
Friends may call from 2-8 P.M. Wednesday in the Ministry Center of the First Church of New Knoxville, where memorial gifts may be given to the First Church of New Knoxville Youth Group.
