Phyllis Gamble
Phyllis Ann Gamble, 75, formerly of Mendon, entered into heaven on Tuesday, July 21 at the Van Wert Hospice Inpatient Center. Her family was with her as she passed from this life into eternity.
She was born on February 29, 1940, the daughter of Creighton S. and Ada Margaret (Nichols) Zeigler in Mendon, OH. Her parents preceded her in death. On June 27, 1977, she was united in marriage to W. Wayne Gamble, and he survives at their home in Van Wert.
Mrs. Gamble is also survived by her 3 children and 3 step-children, Connie (David) Rolsten-Wood, Van Wert; Scott (Cari Schaadt) Rolsten, Mendon; Jane (Steve) Barnes, Van Wert; Vicki (Larry) Smith and Monica Pabst (Phil Griffith) of Elgin and Jeff (Deb Evans) Gamble of Van Wert.
Phyllis enjoyed watching her grandchildren as they grew; Nichole Smith, Amanda (Smith) Stripe, Jonathan (Jennifer) Rickard, Travis (Aubrey) Gamble, Luke Brigham, Seth (Abby) Brigham, Mattea Rolsten, Mitchell Rolsten, and special grandchild John Ramsey (deceased). Also, 7 step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 12 step-great-grandchildren, and 2 step great-great grandchildren.
One of nine children, Phyllis is survived by siblings Mary (Art) Finnegan, Jo (Robert-deceased) Mosier, Thomas (Nancy) Zeigler, Carol (Harold) Welker, Paul (Polly) Zeigler, and William (Gloria) Zeigler, and was preceded in death by brothers James and David Zeigler. Also surviving are sisters and brothers in-law Paul (Edna) Gamble, Marilyn (Morgan-deceased) Jones, Janet (Doug) Miller, and was preceded in death by in-laws Mildred (Roger) Heath. Phyllis is also survived by 29 nieces and nephews, with two deceased.
Mrs. Gamble was a 1958 graduate of Mendon-Union High School and had been employed as an office assistant, cook, tax preparer and laborer (Huffy Corp.) throughout her life.
She was also a member of Mendon-United Methodist Church and volunteered in a variety of capacities at both her church and the Mendon-Union School.
Phyllis was very family oriented; she enjoyed spending time with her siblings, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed being a homemaker; gardening, canning, cooking, sewing, needlepoint; word puzzles and watching television gameshows.
A memorial service will be held at Mendon-United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 25 at 6:00 pm, the family will receive visitors from 5:00-6:00 pm at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Phyllis to the Van Wert Hospice Inpatient Center or the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research.
