Auglaize County teen killed in traffic crash

By Shelley Grieshop
ST. MARYS - A 16-year-old Auglaize County youth was killed Sunday afternoon after the vehicle in which he was riding overturned down a steep embankment along St. Marys River Road.
Noah I. Weber, of Buckland, a front-seat passenger in a 1998 Dodge pickup truck, was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
Also injured was Dustyn Selhorst, 17, of Wapakoneta, who was seated in the center front seat of the truck. He was taken to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, where he was treated and then released.
The driver of the truck, Garret M. Hale, 18, of St. Marys, was not injured, according to the report from the Wapakoneta post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
It's not clear where Hale and the two others were headed at the time of the crash.
"We believe they were just driving around," Trooper Garner Gross told the newspaper this morning.
The report said Hale was driving north on St. Marys River Road, south of Glynwood Road, at 1:28 p.m. when the truck traveled off the right side of the road and struck a group of trees. The vehicle continued down a steep embankment, which caused it to overturn, the report stated.
No citations were issued.
Gross said it isn't yet clear if unknown factors caused the truck to leave the roadway.
Assisting at the scene were the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office and St. Marys police, fire and EMS.
Weber's death marks the fifth traffic fatality this year in Auglaize County.
