Edward Smith
Edward Glen Smith, age 77 of Celina, Ohio passed away after battling a serious illness for the past year and a half on Monday Nov. 16, 2015 at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center, in Van Wert, Ohio.
He was born on May 14, 1938 in Ft. Wayne, IN. He was the son of the late Raymond Glen and Violet Murl (Wearda) Smith. Edward married the love of his life, Mary Louise Kable on January 26, 1962 and to them were born Kevin Smith of Celina; and Susan (Daniel) Maier of Celina.
They have one granddaughter Arrietti Maier, of Celina and her boyfriend Jeremy Ricker of St. Marys. Also surviving are his brothers, Robert (Judith) Smith of Coldwater, MI; Donald (Connie) Smith of Ft. Wayne, IN; Jack (Jan) Smith of Peoria, AZ and Terry Smith of Columbia City, IN; a brother-in-law Glenn (Martha Sue) Kable of Converse, TX; nine favorite Nieces & Nephews, several great Nieces & Nephews and great-great Nieces & Nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and sister-in-law Jerry (Sandy) Smith, a nephew, father-in-law and mother-in-law Lewis and Remma Medonna (Felver) Kable.
Edward graduated from Central High School in 1956 then continued his education in a tool and die apprenticeship. In 1958 he joined the United Sates Army, where he spent 18 months in Korea as a Machinist. Upon the completion of his apprenticeship and with some experience he became a tool maker at CTS of Berne, where he was instrumental in developing the early pacemakers and early computer chips.
From there he worked at Chrysler Amplex in Van Wert from which he retired in 1989. After retiring he and his wife did volunteer work for Celina City Schools, Bear Creek Farms and the UAW.
They also traveled all 50 states and Europe. His favorite recreation though was camping in his motorhomes taking his wife, children, parents and other family members from Canada to Alaska.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 21, 2015 at the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina, with Rev. Mark Wakeland officiating. Military Honors will follow his memorial service at the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home and will be performed by the Celina American Legion Post #210 and the Celina V. F. W. Post #5713.
