New technology designed to protect public from fraud

Area business owners are struggling to switch from conventional credit and debit card systems to the new smart-card technology.
The new payment cards, also known as "EMV" (Europay, MasterCard and Visa), feature an embedded microchip in addition to the familiar magnetic strip. Users pay by "dipping" their cards into a slot in the new EMV terminals. With the card in the slot, consumers complete the purchase with a signature or by entering a four-digit personal identification number. [More]

MINSTER - St. Henry's Mitchel Stammen poured in 20 fourth-quarter points, but it wasn't enough to overtake the homestanding Minster Wildcats, who opened their season with a 60-52 Midwest Athletic Conference victory Friday night at Wildcat Gymnasium.
Minster carried a 12-point lead into the fourth quarter and hit 12-of-20 free throws in the final five minutes of the game, never allowing the Redskins to get closer than six points. [More]
