Elaine Barhorst
Elaine B. Barhorst, 58, Saint Marys, Ohio, died unexpectedly at 12:58 P.M. Monday, January 18, 2016, at Saint Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
She was born December 23, 1957, in Coldwater, Ohio, the daughter of Elmer and Pauline (Wenning) Vehorn. She married Matthew Barhorst on September 24, 1982, in Maria Stein, Ohio, and he survives at the residence.
She is also survived by her three sons: Bartholomew Barhorst of Juno, Alaska; Garrett Barhorst of Saint Marys; Wyatt Barhorst of Saint Marys. She is survived by her siblings: Barb (Clarence) Cecil of Jackson Center, Ohio; Robert (Linda) Vehorn of Arcanum, Ohio; Michael Vehorn of Maria Stein; Pam (Steve) Ritchie of Celina; Diane Vehorn of Millersport, Ohio; Peg (Brad) Hickey of Muncie, Indiana; Dave Vehorn of Maria Stein. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Jim (Lea) Muhlenkamp of Sidney.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by two infant daughters, Elizabeth Ann Barhorst and Christina Marie Barhorst; by two siblings, Janet Muhlenkamp and Donald Vehorn. She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Lucille Barhorst, and her father-in-law, James Barhorst, died January 19, 2016.
Elaine was a graduate of Marion Local High School and the Ohio State Beauty Academy. She was a beautician and was the co-owner of the former Matt's Restaurant in Saint Marys. She later worked at Eagles Lodge 767 in Saint Marys.
Elaine was a member of the Friends of the Library, the Auglaize County Cancer Association, and was in charge of the Saturday night food tent at the annual Holy Rosary Parish Festival.
She loved spending time with her three sons. A favorite pastime was going to garage sales, and selling items on Ebay. She was a great cook and baker, and loved baking pies for family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 22, 2016, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Saint Marys, the Reverend Barry Stechschulte, celebrant. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, Saint Marys.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, where memorial gifts may be given to either the Auglaize County Cancer Association or the Shrine of the Holy Relics in Maria Stein.
