Cavs, Redskins win conference titles

The Coldwater boys and Wapakoneta girls captured West Ohio High School Bowling Conference championships on Saturday at Westgate Lanes in Lima.
Coldwater won the South Division in both boys and girls with Wapakoneta doing likewise in the North Division.
In the girls' championship match, the Redskins beat the Cavaliers by 129 pins, 2,685 to 2,556, to claim the conference title. Lima Senior's Morgan Twining bowled the high game of the day with a 135. Celina's Dorian Regedanz had a 219 and Brianna Wenning of Coldwater rolled a 203.
The Cavalier boys were nearly 200 pins better than Wapak, winning 3,116 to 2,929 to finish the regular season 11-0. Coldwater's Ben Schmitmeyer earned high game honors with a 255. Celina's Dylan Gilbert rolled a 248 and Coldwater's Cory Whitacre finished with a 238.
The postseason begins for Division II teams this week as most of the area teams will compete at the sectional tournament at Community Lanes in Minster. The boys will bowl Friday starting at 5 p.m. with the girls bowling Saturday at noon. The Division I tournament gets underway Feb. 18 and 19 with sectional play at Star Lanes in Port Clinton.

WBL Wrestling Tournament

Elida and Wapakoneta shared the Western Buckeye League wrestling championship after Saturday's league tournament at Murotech Court in St. Marys.
CELINA - For 16 minutes, Celina went toe-to-toe with Lima Senior and was down 45-36 at the half against the second-ranked team in Division I.
But as the second half rolled on, Celina's tanks began to empty while Lima Senior's stayed full.
MINSTER - For the entire second half Minster and St. Marys were never separated by more than two points until the final 45 seconds.
A big defensive stop and four free throws in the closing seconds lifted Minster to a 57-53 Saturday night boys basketball victory over St. Marys at Wildcat Gymnasium.

Fort Recovery rallied from down as much as 10 points to force overtime against Tri-Village and then outscored the Division IV top-ranked Patriots 9-4 in the extra session to pick up the 52-47 win in girls basketball action Saturday afternoon.
