James Niemeyer
James (Jim) H. Niemeyer, 80, died 10:35 P.M. Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in Saint Marys.
Jim was born May 4, 1935 in New Knoxville to Florenz and Alvena (nee Elshoff) Niemeyer and they preceded him in death. On June 19, 1954 he married Nancy Wierwille and she passed on January 4, 2013.
On August 2, 2014 Jim entered into a Christian Commitment Relationship with the love of his later life to Shirley J. Huckeriede and she survives in St. Marys.
Jim worked at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in St. Marys for 42 years as an engineer in the Development Department. Jim served in the U.S. Army with the Army Security Agency from 1954 to 1956.
He was a lifelong member of the American Legion. Jim was a lifetime member of the New Knoxville Historical Society. Jim was also a member of the Eagles in St. Marys and a member of the New Knoxville Gun Club. Jim served for 14 years as Clerk Treasurer of New Knoxville.
Survivors include children: Annette (Pat) Thompson, Kent (Annette) Niemeyer, Marta (Jesse) Hegemier, and Michael (friend Susan) Niemeyer, all from the surrounding New Knoxville area. Grandchildren: Sarah (Luke) Baker, Jill (Matt) Gabel, Nathan (Andrea) King, Joshua Niemeyer, Brooke Niemeyer, Kelly Welsch (Mike Kinstle), Ashley (Jay) Hegemier, Alycia Niemeyer and Taylor Niemeyer. Great-grandchildren: Kate Tinnerman, Mason Baker, Ellie Gabel, John Gabel, Ava Welsch, Audrey Welsch, Maxwell Hegemier, August Hegemier and Gwenyth Niemeyer. Also surviving from Jim's Christian Commitment Relationship with Shirley Huckeriede are children David (Jan) Huckeriede from Lima, Dick (Nan) Huckeriede from St. Marys, Suzann (Doug) Pusser from Delaware, Ohio and Laura (Mark) Maag from Ottawa. Also grandchildren David Pusser, Brian (Jackie) Huckeriede and Tom (Heather) Huckeriede and a great-grandchild Aiden Huckeriede. A sister Dorothy McMullen of St. Marys and a brother Ned and sister-in-law Linda Niemeyer survive in New Knoxville.
Jim was a lifelong member of the First Church of New Knoxville. Jim served as deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. Jim enjoyed following the many sports that his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren played over the years. Jim was dearly loved by his entire family and will be missed at all of the many family get-togethers.
Jim enjoyed traveling, having visited all 50 states and also visited several countries of Europe, Africa, Canada, Mexico and New Zealand with his first wife Nancy. Family vacations were a top priority when the children were growing up. Then he also visited all 50 states with Shirley Huckeriede as well as Mexico and 7 Canadian Provinces.
He enjoyed playing cards. Jim especially enjoyed playing Gin, Bridge and Euchre with his best friend Shirley, and also with numerous other friends and family members. Jim also enjoyed playing ping pong and chess.
Public visitation will begin at 1:00 pm until 4:30 pm on Sunday, February 14, 2016 in the Ministry Center of the First Church of New Knoxville.
It will be followed immediately with funeral services in the church sanctuary at 5:00. Following the funeral service there will be a fellowship banquet period in the Ministry Center for everyone. The Rev. Beth Ernest will conduct the funeral rites. Cremation will follow at a later time.
