Mary Holthaus
Mary R. (Puthoff) Holthaus, age 85, of Timber Ridge Drive, Fort Loramie, passed away of natural causes early Thursday morning, April 7, 2016, at Hospice of Miami County at U.V.M.C. in Troy, Ohio.
She was born April 10, 1930, in St. Patrick, Ohio to the late Bernard and Bertha (Menker) Puthoff.
On June 18, 1949, at St. Patrick Church in St. Patrick, Mary married Alfred F. Holthaus who preceded her in death on February 5, 1972.
Surviving are nine daughters, three sons, and their spouses: Karen Fisher of Fort Loramie, Beth & Gale Fogelsong of Noblesville, IN, Jayne & Keith Kern of Portland, OR, Connie & Robert Broerman of Yorkshire, Lucy & Jack Stoddard of Fort Loramie, Alfred Holthaus of Horse Cave, KY, Norma & Mark Humphreys of Fort Loramie, Eileen & John Boeckman of Fort Loramie, C. Thomas & Tonya Holthaus of Granville, Ted & Beth Holthaus of Fort Loramie, Sharon & Kurt Poeppelman of Fort Loramie, Dianne & Jeff Ruhenkamp of Fort Loramie, forty-one grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren; four siblings and their spouses: Vera Woehrmyer of Minster, Melvin Puthoff of Naples, FL, Donald & Phylis Puthoff of Fort Loramie, and Bonnie & Frank Turner of Fort Loramie; brothers & sisters-in-law: Gene Rethman of Fort Loramie, Lewis Thieman of Carmel, IN, Teresa Puthoff of Sidney, Bernard Holthaus of McCartyville, Lester Holthaus and Catherine Holthaus of Fort Loramie.
She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Megan Marie Holthaus; siblings & in-laws: Francis & Freda Puthoff, Mel Woehrmyer, Corrine & Thomas Francis, Lucy Puthoff, Betty Puthoff, Marjorie Rethman, Barb Thieman, Robert Puthoff and infant sisters, Rita Mae, Martha Lou and Norma Jean Puthoff.
Mary was a homemaker all of her working life and had been a restaurant cook for 17 years. She also owned and operated the former Holthaus Elevator in partnership with her late husband from 1964 to 1972, she then continued on her own until 1978. Mary was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Ann's Rosary Altar Society and Catholic Ladies of Columbia. Mary enjoyed crocheting, working in the kitchen and interacting with her grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie with Rev. Steven Shoup presiding. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
Friends may call Monday 2:00 to 8:00 PM and Tuesday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home.
