4-H'ers get ready for fair

Many local 4-H members are busy preparing animal projects for this year's Mercer County Fair Aug. 12-18. Clara Hellwarth spends some time with her fainting goat, Maise, which she will take to the fair. The seventh-grader at Parkway in Rockford also plans to show market lambs and enter her Australian shepherd, Sadie, into the dog-agility competition. A total of 920 youths are enrolled in various Mercer County 4-H clubs this year, said Jill Ellis with the Mercer County OSU Extension office.
