Roy Thompson Jr.
Roy F. Thompson Jr., 82, of Rockford, Ohio passed away on May 4, 2016.
Roy was the son of Roy Sr. and Margaret Thompson of Cincinnati, Ohio, born on February 12, 1934. The Thompson family consisted of Audrey (Casper) Kramer, Cincinnati and Jean (Arthur) Wilson, Lexington, Kentucky and Roy Jr.
Roy married Mona Weinman on May 26, 1956. Their five children included Romona (Kevin) Carver, Dayton, Ohio; Roy III, (Died 5-9-1995) married Kay Motycka who then married Alan Brandt, Rockford, Ohio; Randall, Van Wert, Ohio; Heather Barker, Rockford, Ohio; and Holly (Robert) Wehe, Willshire, Ohio. Also surviving is a daughter-in-law, Kelli Thompson of Van Wert. The family includes twelve grandchildren: Caitlin and Lauren Carver, Cincinnati; Ryan (Leah) Thompson, Rockford; Tyler (Lindsey) Thompson, Ontario; Jordan Thompson, Rockford; Leah (Abdel) Alaani, Fishers, IN; Weston (Quincy) Thompson, Van Wert; Daniel Thompson, Van Wert; Courtney Barker, Columbia, TN; Trevor Barker, Rockford; Samantha and Jack Wehe, Willshire. He has five great-grandchildren: Bailey, Roman, Carter, Hayes and Adam.
Roy graduated from Western Hills High School and left Cincinnati in 1952 to attend the Ohio State University, College of Engineering and graduated in 1957 when he began active duty time with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Upon leaving the military, he began service with the Ohio Department of Transportation, Sidney, Ohio and completed 32 years of employment retiring as the District Operation Engineer over a seven county area. Upon retirement, he did local land surveying and design and construction of small residential sub-divisions.
In 1999, he began service as the Mercer County Engineer and retired from that position in 2003. Through his years of employment, he acquired several farms and upon his 2003 retirement, enjoyed management of the family farm operation.
Mr. Thompson served many years on the Rockford Carnegie Library Board, was a founding member of the Rockford Historical Society and one of the founding members of the Leota Braun Charitable Trust Organization. He was an active member of the Liberty Township, St. Paul Lutheran Church.
A memorial service will be held at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 9380 Wabash Road on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 5:00 PM.
The family will receive family and friends at the church from 2:30 until 4:30 PM on Monday.
