Rose Smith
Rose Ann Smith, 82, of Boone, Iowa, passed away on May 3, 2016, at Westhaven Community. Following her wishes, Rose has been cremated. A Memorial Service will be held July 9, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the Westhaven Community. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Moingona, Iowa.
Rose was born March 1, 1934, on a farm in Jackson Township, East of Boone, the daughter of Morgan I. and Helen V. (Martin) Sterner. She graduated from Boone High School in 1952. Rose married Harold E. Smith, Sr. who is deceased.
Rose was a member of Central Christian Church. She worked at the Boone YMCA and was a "greeter" at Walmart. She also did sewing alterations for many people in the community for over 60 years. Rose was a Foster Grandparent as Sacred Heart School where she was known as "Grandma Rose" to many children. Rose loved to read, go to garage sales, and sew.
Rose is survived by her children: Jenny (Jay) Vorhees of St. Marys, OH; Ed (Kim) Smith of Mendon, OH; Jim Smith of Alabama; Rick (Deb) Smith of St. Marys, OH; Linda (Marty) Boys of Camas, WA, and Gary (Renee Barriault) Smith of Tolleson, AZ; 15 Grandchildren and 17 Great-Grandchildren. Rose is also survived by her step-mother Lucille Sterner of Boone, IA; brothers and sisters: Jerry (Carol) Sterner of Morning Sun, IA; Morgan (Eunice) Sterner of Ogden, IA; Sven (Jeanette) Sterner of Holly Lake Ranch, TX; Joanie Coleman of Boone, IA; Rich (Deb) Bennett of Boone, IA; Jeanne (Kevin) Wimer of Sheldahl, IA; Karolyn Bennett of Ames, IA; Janet (Ted) Welch of Macedonia, IA; Marsha (David) Bergstrom of Titonka, IA; Margaret (Kenny) Bayliss of Ruskin, FL; Donna Accettola of Auburn WA; Rosalie (Norman) Taylor of Eastman, GA; and Donny (Carol) Brandon of New Haven MI; nieces, nephews, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Morgan I. Sterner and Helen (John) Bennett, Sr., her brother John W. Bennett, Jr. and her niece Robin Sterner.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mary Greeley Hospice.
Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall is in charge of arrangements.

Celebration of life will be held in Mendon at United Methodist Church with Randy Christian officiating. Luncheon to follow in fellowship hall May 26, 2016 1 p.m.
